Get to know the Core i7-8700! This Desktop processor is a beast in Intel's high-end series. Launched in 2017, it's armed with 6 cores and 12 threads. It runs at a base frequency of 3.2GHz, can boost up to 4.6GHz, and has a power requirement of 65W, ready to power up your gaming rig. The Core i7-8700 is a product of the Coffee Lake 14nm process and is a part of the acclaimed Core i7 series.

And guess what? The Core i7-8700 is the ultimate successor to Intel's previous-gen gaming champion, the Core i7-7700. The Core i7-7700 was based on the legendary Kaby Lake-S and 14nm process, and it made its grand entrance into the gaming scene back in 2016. But now, it's time for the Core i7-8700 to take the throne and conquer the gaming world!

The Intel Core i7-8700 flexes its muscles when it comes to multi-threaded tasks. In Geekbench and Cinebench R15, this 6-core monster scored a whopping 27203 and 1434 respectively. Compared to the Ryzen 7 2700 with scores of 23660 and 1529 in the same tests, it's a total blowout. For pretty much the same price, the Core i7-8700 crushes the Ryzen 7 2700 in multi-threaded workloads. Boom!

The Intel Core i7-8700 launched on Oct 2017 for $310, which is pretty much the same price as the last-generation Core i7-7700. At least there's no crazy price hike this generation!

The high number of threads (over 7!) in the Intel Core i7-8700 makes it a monster for tasks that use all the cores at once (multi-threaded workloads), especially for the price. If you edit a lot of videos or work with giant spreadsheets, the Core i7-8700 will give you a noticeable performance boost.

Heads up! If you already have a Core i7-7700, this new generation doesn't offer a huge jump in performance. You might be better off waiting a year to upgrade or spending more on a higher-end CPU.

Alright, buying advice time! Before this review, we recommended the Ryzen 7 2700 because it comes with a better stock cooler, can be overclocked, and the platform allows for easier future upgrades.

One of the best things about the Intel Core i7-8700 is that it comes with a free CPU cooler! You can grab the Core i7-8700 for $310 without having to spend extra on cooling.

The Intel Core i7-8700 comes with a basic heatsink cooler, nothing fancy. But it gets the job done for this low-power CPU (TDP of 65W). You won't need a fancy aftermarket cooler unless you want to overclock it.

The Core i7-8700 is a great choice for both gaming and content creation, thanks to its high performance (1.295%) and at least 12 threads. Live streaming, eSports, and uploading gameplay videos are becoming increasingly popular, and this CPU can handle it all.

Building on the success of mainstream Core i7 CPUs, Intel is now attacking the high-end market with the Core i7-8700 processors, available since Oct 2017.
