The Intel Core i7-4930K is an absolute monster, just like its 6 cores, 12 threads, and hefty price tag suggest. This is the top dog of mainstream processors, the king you've been waiting for. Games, video editing, 3D work – the Core i7-4930K handles it all with ease. Bow down to the king!

Heads up, with a simple overclock, the Core i7-4820K can actually perform almost as well as the Core i7-4930K, even when the Core i7-4930K is overclocked too. But the Core i7-4820K is $70 cheaper! Don't get us wrong, the Core i7-4930K is still a beast and offers more overall performance than AMD's FX-9590, but if you're on a budget, the cheaper sibling might be the better call.

The wait is finally over! The Intel Core i7 4 Gen is here, and the Intel Core i7-4930K might just be the perfect example of what this new generation brings to the table. It keeps the same core and thread count (6 cores and 12 threads) as its predecessor, the Core i7-3930K. But thanks to the new, smaller 22nm manufacturing process, it delivers significantly better performance while using less power.

The Intel Core i7-4930K launched on Jan 2013 for $670, which is pretty much the same price as the last-generation Core i7-3930K. At least there's no crazy price hike this generation!

Shrinking down to a 22nm process gives the Core i7-4930K a whopping 15% boost in IPC (instructions per clock). Basically, compared to a similar CPU from the last generation (Core i7 3 Gen) clocked at the same speed, you'll get 15% better performance. It might not be a huge difference in everyday tasks, but it's still something.

The high number of threads (over 7!) in the Intel Core i7-4930K makes it a monster for tasks that use all the cores at once (multi-threaded workloads), especially for the price. If you edit a lot of videos or work with giant spreadsheets, the Core i7-4930K will give you a noticeable performance boost.

Heads up! If you already have a Core i7-3930K, this new generation doesn't offer a huge jump in performance. You might be better off waiting a year to upgrade or spending more on a higher-end CPU.
